Unlocking new skills and expanding creative practice through hands-on workshops in physical and visual theatre.

We support Solent artists by encouraging creative and career growth in visual performance. Our Solent Masterclasses provide hands-on training, networking and skill-building for early-career, emerging and professional performers. These workshops offer access to industry-leading artists and connect participants with their peers, to build confidence and explore new techniques.

Led by established UK and international artists the sessions cover a range of disciplines, from movement-based performance to devising for circus and physical theatre. The Solent Masterclasses bring together independent artists, collectives and companies from the Solent region and are delivered in collaboration with local partners, including New Theatre Royal, Turtle Key Arts, Funk Format and Rawkus City Festival.

Examples of Masterclasses:

  • Parkour & Physical Theatre with Said Mouhssine (Company Zid)
  • Object Manipulation with Gandini Juggling
  • Movement & Repertoire with Company Chameleon
  • Devising with New Equipment with Charlotte Mooney (Ockham’s Razor)
  • Gesture & Text in Performance with Nathan Johnston (Ockham’s Razor)

Through these workshops artists gain vital skills, expand their networks and strengthen the region’s visual performance sector.

The project is part of Crying Out Loud’s Solent Creative Development programme.
