Crying Out Loud’s visual timeline marks a selection of the pivotal events of UK contemporary circus.
Taking its starting point in the community and social circus movements of the late 1960s, our Circus Timeline of recent history showcase the pivotal companies and events from four decades of UK contemporary circus. Starting in 1968 with Welfare State International the timeline takes us to 2018 with Circus250.
Just some highlights here – circus is named as a category at the Edinburgh Fringe; the launch of a second degree programme by Circomedia; the re-naming of Circus Space as part of its 25th anniversary to the National Centre for Circus Arts; NICE2014 hosted by NoFit State and CircusWorks in Cardiff; the development of the Unpack the Arts programme and the launch of the Circus Research Network.
