The 30th edition of CIRCa festival du cirque actuel closed on 29 October with Ellie’s Dubois’ Ringside, the final show as part of our highly successful UK circus showcase Spotlight UK Circus.

Across the nine-day festival, four UK companies – Pirates of the CarabinaOckham’s RazorNikki&JD and Ellie Dubois – performed to capacity crowds and were positively reviewed by critics, and seven UK companies pitched their shows and works in progress to promoters.

‘Pirates of the Carabina is a proposal of a different kind which benefits from the inimitable talent of the Anglo-Saxons to deliver complete, rhythmic shows with a strong identity.’ I/O Gazette

184 international promoters attended one or more Spotlight UK Circus events. Feedback was very positive, bookings have been made and conversations have begun!

‘This showcase was beautifully produced. I look forward to continuing in dialogue with the artists from Upswing, Mimbre and Extraordinary Bodies. They are all working with ideas and diversity questions that are very much in line with those at Boom Arts.’ Ruth Wikler-Luker | Curator and Producer

Spotlight UK Circus will next feature at Subcase Subtopia Circus Fair in November with performances of 8 Songs by Gandini Juggling, Hyena by Alula Cyr and Ringside by Ellie Dubois. Jessica Andrade will pitch her work in progress Brownie Club to promoters.
