Pirates of the Carabina (POC) is a circus company who specialise in theatrical, highly technical shows with a very strong live music ethos. Comprised of British, Irish, Finnish and American circus artists, riggers and musicians, they are a group of experienced artists who have created a platform to develop their own ideas, and bring to the stage the qualities, skills and quirks that best express their essence.
POC formed organically out of a one off commissioned performance of FLOWN for Glastonbury Festival in 2011. As a result of FLOWN’s success, the Glastonbury Arts Commission has become an established award, offering a platform for new circus companies.
POC feel that group ownership of the work is essential and have a firm belief that continuing to work from this basis will generate a unique, honest energy that will be felt by the audiences as well as serve as a source of creative drive for new, constantly evolving work. POC specialise in creating unique acts and stunts, combining these with heartfelt humour and honest performance.
During 2013 & 2014 FLOWN toured to venues across the UK,France and Sweden, performing 102 shows to more than 36,000 people. The company has performed to capacity crowds including Glastonbury Festival, Bristol Circus Festival and the Edinburgh Fringe where the company won the Total Theatre Award for best Physical/Visual Theatre show.
With sell-out shows in 5 out of 8 venues this season the company will continue to build on FLOWN’s success in 2015.
