Next year the circus sector marks 250 years since the founding of the world’s first modern circus on the banks of the Thames with a far-reaching programme, Circus250. Thanks to a successful application to Arts Council England’s Ambitions for Excellence programme, Crying Out Loud will deliver an ambitious outdoor programme. New and unusual collaborations will allow emerging and established artists to experiment with contemporary circus, and an international cast of musical acrobats will tour in a big top to seven regions offering local audiences the chance to share a community experience under canvas.
