Contrasting the life of an aerialist against the chaos of loss.
Footprint in the Snow is the debut solo performance by circus artist Laura Moy.
The unexpected loss of a loved one can often leave the bereaved feeling silenced and alone. In grief we can be altered and the landscape we inhabit unrecognisable, attempting to navigate it can sometimes feel impossible and there are no words.
The work draws upon her own surreal experience of touring as an aerialist in contemporary circus; a space of precision and control in a suspended reality whilst facing the disorientation and unpredictability of traumatic grief.
When hanging by an elbow six metres in the air was the only place that felt safe.
Combining poetic movement and fluidity of the body on the pole with a beautiful original musical score, the piece evolved collaboratively from the experience of all artists involved.
Footprint in The Snow is a deeply personal story that attempts to give form to the agony of grief.
