Professional Masterclass

Workshop devising on new equipment with Charlotte Mooney, Co-Artistic Director of Ockham’s Razor.

This is a three-hour workshop for professional/emerging circus artists looking at adapting their creative practice to new equipment. Note that the cost includes a ticket to 7.30pm performance of Tess  by Ockham’s Razor.

We will work on an original piece of equipment, a wooden climbing wall used in Ockham’s Razor’s latest show Tess  on stage at New Theatre Royal Portsmouth. Together we will explore a series of playful tasks and prompts to explore new movement. We will look at how to create striking images in circus and how we can draw meaning from these.

*If you require financial support to access the Masterclass then please email with your details projects@cryingoutloud.org

There will be also an opportunity to meet the team from here at Crying Out Loud, now that we are working across the Solent, supporting physical and visual theatre artists.

  • Tess production by Ockham's Razor

Ockham’s new show Tess  is an adaption of Hardy’s classic novel Tess of the d’Urbervilles, it weaves together acrobatics, aerial, physical theatre, spoken word and an inventive, evocative set to conjure Hardy’s world.

The classic novel still has extraordinary relevance for contemporary audiences as it explores questions of privilege, class, poverty, agency, female desire and solidarity.

It is the first time Ockham’s have worked from a novel weaving together Hardy’s words with physical storytelling to tell this gut-wrenching story about the strength to endure.

More on Tess and show dates.
