101 Outdoor Arts Creation Space

Crying Out Loud went to the official launch event for 101 Outdoor Arts Creation Space on Thursday 23 October which featured performance, promenade and pyrotechnics, a feast from Fivepenny Farm and Devoted and Disgruntled: How do we create great outdoor arts? co-hosted with Improbable.

101 is Corn Exchange Newbury’s dedicated outdoor creation space based on the former USAF Greenham Common site. It is a unique creative building that offers artists who work in outdoor arts a dedicated space to conceive, make, rehearse and platform work before being presented locally, nationally and internationally. It also runs a year-round programme of community engagement and professional development activities.

The building. like several to be found elsewhere in Europe but not previously in the UK, has a fully equipped workshop and production facilities, large-scale performance and rehearsal areas, aerial circus equipment and artist accommodation in the form of vintage caravans.

Through the Corn Exchange, 101 can also provide technical, administrative and producing support to projects and regularly supports work in progress showings of performances and learning and participation activity alongside its residency programme.
