The vibrant atmosphere of Canvas 2015 is still coursing through our veins. In early May the great and the good from the contemporary circus and visual theatre worlds met in London for the 2nd UK contemporary circus showcase event. A stimulating and joyous occasion in the meeting of artists with venue programmers and festival directors. Much was packed into the three days, exciting projects to note, meeting of the old and new bound ties was especially pleasing. But, the high spot was the sheer pleasure of seeing such a groundswell of new work established since the first showcase two years ago.
Over three days 89 projects were profiled to more than 90 delegates hosted by five venues who, along with Crying Out Loud, are part of the City Circ network: Jackson’s Lane, Arts Depot, NCCA, Roundhouse and The Albany. We saw three full length shows and excerpts from nine, followed by 31 artists pitching new work plus the very fast paced ‘speed dating’ sessions and the two artist networking sessions to follow up taking conversations further.
Big thanks to Flora Herberich and the volunteers, whose energy and passion made this event such a success, they were Becca from Great Yarmouth, Rebecca from Jacksons Lane, Laura from Crying Out Loud and the technical wizard Françoise from France.
