Japanese Garden

One of three theatrical experiences in the Children’s Cheering Carpet series, step into a dream and explore the dazzling, digital world of Japanese Garden. An artist tells the story of Shiro, a little boy who goes on a journey, and invites you to enter his magical world. Retrace his steps though five special gardens.

Japanese Garden  was the first in an extraordinary series of performance events that beautifully immerse the viewer in a larger-than-life electronic landscape.

The Children’s Cheering Carpet is a sensory theatrical experience and participatory performance for all age groups. It combines a remarkable world of digital animation, video illusions and synchronised sound to create virtual images and stories.

Japanese Garden  toured in 2005 to the Purcell Room, Southbank Centre, Leicester’s Spark Children’s Arts Festival, Derby Dance Centre and Nottingham’s Lakeside Arts Centre.

  • ‘A new experience in participatory theatre. A warm assault on all the senses. Inclusive and embracing. It’s about theatre as a shared experience and I’ve never seen anything quite like it.’
